Juicing instead of eating… Are you Sure?
My wife told me I needed to eat healthier. She said she heard this thing about juicing vegetables. I said, “Oh hell no; not me, I’m a carnivore!” She then said that it didn’t just have to be veggies; that you could also juice fruits, milk, etc to make smoothies. I said I’d go along if we could juice a 10 ounce ribeye steak! She said, “What, do you want me to juice nachos also?” Well, needless to say, I lost that battle! And guess what? …
Juicing can be fun, if …
Well, the next thing you know, I see a new juicing machine being delivered to our front door “courtesy” of Macy’s, plus a $200+ bill on our Discover Card. So I figured “what the hell”, if we spent the money, I may as well try it!! So she sends me down to the grocery store to buy (of all things) kale, celery, cucumbers, ginger, yellow lemons and green apples. She makes this God-awful green looking “liquid” that I state there is no way in hell I’m gonna drink, but she convinces me (like only a wife can) to drink it. The first couple of swallows were pretty tough. But believe it or not, it kind of grew on me!! I downed the first drink and the next thing I know, at the next meal, I was asking where my juice was.
Well, 3 weeks later, I felt better; I dropped about 15 pounds, my doctor was happy and so was my wife. Even though my poop turned green, I felt I had more energy than I had in years. There was a little pep in my step and my attitude just kind of changed. In a round about way, my wife once again had tricked me to do something I never would have done on my own. I guess that’s part of marriage, huh?
Juicing my way to a healthier me?
Feeling better and healthier is always good. We have now been juicing on and off for about a year now. Some days, we drink all 3 meals; while other days we maybe just have one drink or maybe none at all. As with most things that have not truly, truly become habit, we need to be a little more disciplined in this. But one thing is for sure: when we drink our juice on a consistent basis, I sure feel better. We need to get back to drinking our juice “concoctions” at least twice daily and then I know I’ll be ready to dance and boogie in the streets.
If you get a chance, try juicing your next meal or two. You may actually like it, but believe me, you will definitely notice the difference in how you feel.
